An AI Photo Booth: A Technological Marvel
An AI photo booth is a technological marvel that harnesses the power of generative AI. It takes a person’s likeness and unique appearance and transforms them into stylised, AI-generated images.
In the evolving landscape of event photography, the AI photo booth stands out as a transformative force. It is not just another booth; it is an innovation that redefines how we capture and experience moments. Since 2023, these booths have been making waves, gradually carving their place in the events industry.
Why does it matter?
In the world of events and brand experiences, consistency and accuracy are essential. When sharing branded content, ensuring precise logo reproduction is non-negotiable. While early adoption came with teething issues, AI photo booths offer something unparalleled: the ability to generate unique, personalised creative outputs.
At their core, AI photo booths merge cutting-edge technology with individuality. They create an interactive space where every snapshot becomes a piece of art, capturing the user’s likeness in a fresh and innovative way. These booths excel at producing distinct images, infusing personal characteristics while maintaining brand integrity through meticulous compositing.
In essence, an AI photo booth for events is not a flash in the pan; it is an experience generator. It blends technology with personalisation, setting a new standard for engagement. With each capture, it delivers a bespoke image that reflects the essence of the individual and creates a memorable brand experience.
AI PHOTOBOOTH: The Face Swapper

The ‘Face Mapper’ variant has recently attracted attention. At first glance, its outputs seem impeccable. The images are consistent and almost flawless. Yet a closer look reveals limitations.
The Upsides
The Face Mapper’s strength lies in its ability to curate output images with precision. It can reproduce the base image exactly, leading to polished visuals.
The Downside
However, the apparent perfection conceals a drawback. The base images are pre-composed, not generated in real time. As a result, outputs are repetitive, and each guest’s image ends up looking much the same as everyone else’s. This undermines the promise of truly personalised experiences that AI booths are meant to deliver.
The range of outputs is narrow, often limited to androgynous bodies or simple head-and-shoulders poses unless comical alternatives are chosen. In practice, the Face Mapper leans more towards advanced photoshopping than genuine generative AI. It is a valid tool in certain contexts, but it lacks the diversity and uniqueness expected from AI-driven creativity.
At Snapmatix, we use Face Mapper techniques selectively, as part of a wider mix of outputs, but never as the basis of a full AI photo booth activation.
AI PHOTOBOOTH: 'The AI Greenscreen'

We are big fans of the AI background remover photo booth. Unlike traditional green screens, it is not restricted to a coloured backdrop or perfect lighting. It can isolate the subject and remove the background entirely, ready for any creative scene.
In early 2023, we used this approach for a semi-outdoor project with uncontrolled lighting, and it worked surprisingly well.
As with Face Mapper, this solution has its place. However, to call it a full AI photo booth would be a stretch.
AI PHOTOBOOTH: The Full Generative AI Photo booth

AI PHOTO BOOTH: The Full Generative Experience
Snapmatix Generative AI Photo Booth (Gen 1 & Gen 2)
This is the true benchmark of what an AI photo booth should be. The images are generated entirely, using both brand parameters and user features — not just the face. This distinction is key.
The outputs integrate the user’s likeness seamlessly into creative scenes, ensuring a genuinely unique and branded result. We have delivered several of these projects, and the outcomes speak for themselves. The best validation lies in case studies, which you can explore [here].
The Upsides
The outputs can be astonishing. They surprise, delight and generate unique results that reflect each individual subject. This is the gold standard of AI image generation.
The Downsides
It requires far more testing to get right. Building parameters for high-quality outputs is not straightforward. The system must balance creative freedom with constraints to deliver consistent, on-brand visuals.
Extensive testing across users of different ethnicities, body types and sizes is vital to avoid bias and ensure inclusivity. Delivering at scale presents further challenges. Consistency across outputs is harder to achieve but pays off significantly, driving engagement and increasing value.
